Homebound Girls in Jordan

Summary

Homebound girls are girls under the age of eighteen who withdraw themselves, or are withdrawn by their family, from school and spend their days working as domestic laborers in the home.This research aimed to understand the reasons that led to their confinement and secondly, to identify possible interventions to allow homebound girls access to education and strengthen their social development. The research conducted was based on in-depth interviews with 46 homebound girls and 40 mothers in four locations in Jordan: Marka, Marfaq, Ma’an, and Zarqa.
